Q-switched Nd:YAG laser

The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser works with either 532 or 1064 nm and is used to remove tattoos. Which wavelength is used depends on the colour of the pigments.

Overview

The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser uses either the 532 nm or the 1064 nm wavelength. Its very short, high-energy pulses shatter the colour pigments of a tattoo into tiny particles, which the body then breaks down. In our practice we work with the Evo Q-Plus by Quanta System for this.

The 1064 nm wavelength is particularly suited to the colours black, blue and brown; red, yellow, orange and likewise brown are treated with the 532 nm wavelength. Which wavelength and which laser come into question for a tattoo depends not only on the colour but also on the age of the tattoo and on where it sits on the body. Professional tattoos need more sessions than amateur tattoos because of the higher density of their colour particles.

For tattoos that respond only poorly to treatment, alternating treatment with the Nd:YAG laser and the ruby laser can be an option. The detailed description can be found on our laser tattoo removal treatment page.
