Wrinkles & skin tightening

We treat wrinkles and loss of skin firmness with the fractional CO₂ laser, radiofrequency microneedling and the Erbium:YAG laser. Which method fits depends on the findings and on the healing time you can plan for.

Overview

For treating wrinkles and for skin tightening we use laser and radiofrequency methods: the fractional CO₂ laser, radiofrequency microneedling and the Erbium:YAG laser. All three prompt the skin to form new collagen; they differ in whether the skin surface is ablated and in how much heat reaches the depth.

The fractional mode does not treat the skin over its whole area but in a fine grid of microscopically small zones. That keeps the downtime limited to a few days, so that as a rule you can soon return to your professional and social commitments; how many days it takes depends on the method and on the intensity chosen. Risks such as scarring, pigment shifts or changes in facial expression can be kept low with proper technique, but they cannot be ruled out.

Besides fine lines around the eyes, we mainly treat wrinkles in the upper lip, forehead and cheek areas as well as slackened skin on the neck, the décolleté and the backs of the hands; acne scars and stretch marks can be improved as well. We also use the fractional CO₂ laser and radiofrequency microneedling in combination. Which approach fits you, we discuss during the examination.

Methods for wrinkles and skin tightening

To treat wrinkles and for skin tightening we use the following methods:

  • Fractional CO₂ laser: ablates the skin in a grid pattern and brings heat into the tissue, which stimulates new collagen and tightening. We also use it for acne scars and stretch marks.
  • Radiofrequency microneedling: delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis through fine needles while the skin surface stays largely intact. It is used for loss of skin firmness and acne scars.
  • Erbium:YAG laser: ablates superficially with little heat effect, usually with a shorter downtime. It is suited to fine lines, for instance around the eyes and mouth.
